A Manhattan Workaholic's Guide To Getting Fit For The Summer
If you are a workaholic, and you live in Manhattan, and you're in your office all day and out in the cold at night while walking to the subway or train, you might be dreaming of the warm weather, perhaps a vacation you have planned for the spring. But if you're someone who doesn't have hours after work to go to the gym (maybe you're swamped with work and don't get out until way past five and are too tired) then you might be discouraged about the prospects of getting into shape for the summer. You might finish up the day and feel just too exhausted to do anything other than head home, eat some food, and crash. However, there are things you can do to make your life better and get into shape that will fit within your busy schedule. Here are a few ideas.
Early Morning Exercise Class
At the end of the day you might be exhausted and the idea of an exercise class might just be too much. Also, excuse can actually make you more revived and awake, so if you need to sleep, you might want to think twice about doing a heavy exercise late at night. You might finish the class and feel wide awake and not be able to fall asleep. So, the better alternative is to take a morning class. You can head to any of the many gyms or exercise studios in the city and take one of their early classes (5 am classes are common, with everything from cycling/spinning to yoga). These classes are perfect because they set you up perfectly for the day and also create a great schedule. They force you to do your exercise early so that there is no reason to slack off at the end of the day.
Hire Your Own Personal Trainer
If you are not a big fan of hitting the early, crack of dawn exercise class, then you shoudl consider hiring a personal trainer who can come right to apartment or even accompany you to the gym. So, for instance, you might only have a half hour every few days, plus two hours on the weekend to work out. What you can do is find a persona trainer who will come over to where you live (for instance if you live on the upper east side, you can find one who knows all the best private gyms on Madison or Park in the 70s and 80s) and they can take you there and run you through a complete workout program in the shortest amount of time. This will let you get the maximum benefit from the limited time you have. These trainers might even be able to come right to your home and put you through the workout program themselves.
