Understanding Medical Restrictions

About a year ago, I realized that there were some issues with my medical plan. I was diagnosed with a serious condition, but my treatments weren't going along quite as nicely as I would have hoped. I started thinking about different ways to streamline things, but I knew that I needed the help of my medical provider. I headed in to a medical clinic, and they worked with me to figure things out. I wanted to start a website to encourage others to find the help they need each and every day. Check out this blog for moe information that could help you.

Reduce Inflammation And Pain Associated With A Herniated Disc

A herniated disc is often referred to as a slipped disc and can occur after twisting or bending over in an awkward manner. The most common side effect of this condition is lower back pain that can be minor to moderately severe. If you have been diagnosed with a herniated disc, you can reduce inflammation and pain with some basic steps. With continued care of your back muscles both at home and through a place like Southwest Florida Neurosurgical & Rehab Associates, your condition will likely improve and you will no longer burdened with muscle pain that prevents you from following your normal routine.

Seek An Assessment From A Chiropractor

Before attempting to reduce back pain on your own, it is important to receive an assessment from a chiropractor. A chiropractor will locate the part of your back that is affected and will possibly take x-rays of the area to determine how severe the injury is.

A chiropractor may suggest that you participate in therapeutic massages as a part of your treatment plan. Massage techniques will be used to loosen sore muscles and realign the disc that is causing you pain. If your chiropractor feels that a physical therapist will benefit you, they will provide you with contact information for a reputable therapist who will use massages or water or heat therapy to reduce discomfort and improve your range of motion.

Complete Stretching Exercises

Ask your chiropractor or physical therapist for advice about stretching exercises that will reduce pressure on the nerve endings that are near the injured disc. By keeping yourself limber after stretching on a regular basis, you may notice that your herniated disc doesn't bother you as much as it used to. Before performing stretching exercises, purchase an exercise mat and comfortable clothing that you will be able to move around in without straining.

Practice the exercises for short intervals until you notice that your stamina has increased and back pain isn't holding you back as much as it used to. After you begin to feel better, increase the duration that you complete stretching exercises, but avoid overexerting yourself or attempting to complete exercises that weren't recommended to you.

Take An Anti Inflammatory Medication And Use Heat Therapy

An over-the-counter anti inflammatory medication will gradually ease pain so that you are able to relax or sleep. Check with your doctor or chiropractor before trying a new type of medication and alert your provider if your condition does not improve or if it worsens. Use a heating pad to assist with remaining comfortable. Place the heating pad on your couch, a recliner, or your bed. After the herniated disc comes into contact with warmth for several minutes, tension may lessen and you will feel relaxed.
